Challenges in Winter 'Boxing...

From: Sarah (tenrec_girl@yahoo.com) | Date: 2003-12-08 22:50:28 UTC
This weekend at Savage Mill, MD, we were 2/4... and we discovered
some of the additional challenges when 'boxing in the winter. The
clue "A large tree with three whitish rocks at the base"
(AppleDumplinGang's Out of the Frying Pan) is probably pretty clear
cut, except when there's about 3" of snow and whitish rocks turn into
snow-covered lumps. Oh well, it was a beautiful hike through the
woods!

Sarah (& Carrie & Jen) from Silver Spring, MD <- trail names and
stamps coming soon!

So great to hear of determined letterboxers undetered by cold and
snow! I went letterboxing in the snow last year in Watkins park.
After an hour of looking I finally found the log under several inches
of snow. Then I decided all that tromping around in that particular
location wasn't so good either.

There must be some that are ok in the snow in MD. You Marylanders?

There are a few indoor letterboxes in the area. My "It's a Holiday"
in Arlington, VA is one.

Happy hunting,
Scarab of the Doubtful Guests

Now try it when there's been a temperature drop long enough to freeze
the snow into ice. I had to retrieve 'Sinking Pond' (Western NY) with
a screwdriver from car repair kit. Now I carry an ice-pick in winter
months. :D
